Understanding Core Update:
Expired Domain Abuse:
Suppose someone has been working well on a website for 2 to 3 years and made the authority of the website and after that, for any reason, stopped working on the site. Now, this domain will expire and become available for purchase. But if anyone buys this domain, he or she will get domain age, domain authority (DA), and all its backlinks. And whenever He or she creates a new blog, then there will be a high chance of a fast ranking of his or her website.
We have observed in the last couple of years that people are misusing expired domains. Due to this, Google brings a special Google core algorithm update in March 2024 for expired domain abuse. Google penalized 70% of the websites that were uploading low-quality content on high-traffic websites.
Site Reputation Abuse:
Google shared examples on the Site Reputation Abuse page and explained what is included and excluded in the Site Reputation Abuse. For example, any medical website that has Casino pages is totally irrelevant. Another example is any sports-related website published a workout supplement review that is somehow slightly relevant but the website editor didn’t check the quality of the content and the URL of the supplement. So, this update can have an impact on such websites.
This is called Site Reputation Abuse, when people use the reputation of high authority websites to sell their services. Google has warned new sites as well as high authority websites and has given time of 2 months either to deindex or completely remove all such pages.
The most important point that the Google core update included is there is no impact of Guest posts and sponsored posts if website owner has close involvement in the quality of guest posts.
Creating backlinks is still beneficial because backlinks are important signals, and Google can’t differentiate between earned and created backlinks if done smartly.
Scaled Content Abuse:
Let’s understand scaled content abuse with an example, suppose someone bought an expired domain or a new domain. He or she posts 10 to 20 posts daily. It’s not possible even to write 3 to 4 useful articles by a person in one day. So they have two options either to publish AI content or he or she hire inexperienced people. In both cases, the content will be unoriginal and provide little to no value to the users. So whoever is practicing this type, they are at high risk.
So among those 1500 analyzed websites, 70% of the websites were affected because of the Google Core update 2024, and some lost 90% of traffic. But those websites with original content and government job websites didn’t get any impact from this update. There were only 5% to 10% of websites whose traffic went up even though they violated all the spam policies of Google.
Future of AI Content:
Now either to use AI content after this update? Obviously Not, but Yes too. No for using AI content, but yes for using AI tools.

To understand this, let’s look at Google’s previous statement. According to Google in 2023, rewarding high-quality content is produced with AI.
So if the content is high quality and original and if it demonstrates E-E-A-T then there is no reason Google will not reward even if the content is AI-written. Google also pointed out that if the content is not helpful, and if it doesn’t demonstrate E-E-A-T, it will not get ranked.
Conclusion:
What’s the difference between Google’s previous statement related to AI content and now this new statement? Is either the AI content spam currently? Google clearly said that Google didn’t change the content but rather just modified it. This modification is because AI tools are getting more sophisticated. In future, it will be difficult to understand whether this low-quality content is generated by Automation or by human efforts.
So Google is not focusing on the content, whether it is human-written or generated with AI. Rather Google will focus on whether the content is helpful, original, or written by an experienced person. Google is against the low quality and useless content.
Those digital marketers who didn’t use AI content will say it is the end of AI content. But in reality, AI is the future. But only if you use AI as an assistant rather than a machine will the world’s most powerful content writer assistant be with you. If you have the best mechanism to write such AI content that is helpful and high quality or it can fulfill E-E-A-T.
